Making In-Home Pet Euthanasia a Fear-Free Experience for All

Dr. Emily Hawrysio is board certified in palliative and hospice care for pets, and she is also Fear Free Certified. Her Fear Free certification demonstrates her commitment to the comfort and well-being of her patients and their loving owners, especially in end-of-life situations. With gentle handling, clear and compassionate communication, and respect for the needs of your pet and your family, Dr. Hawrysio can greatly reduce the stress of the situation and put everyone at ease.

In-home euthanasia is a blessing for pets and families, because it gives them the dignity and privacy they deserve. Saying goodbye to a pet is always one of the hardest things a pet owner can do, but it can be a unique and meaningful moment, too.

What to Expect with the Euthanasia Procedure

Discussion about euthanasia only comes after we have consulted with you and fully evaluated your pet to determine their quality of life and prognosis.

Once you and your family are fully ready, Dr. Hawrysio will move forward with your pet’s euthanasia procedure. First, we will work with you to make sure your pet is as comfortable as possible. Maybe that means sitting in their favorite spot on the sofa, or resting in the backyard with their head in your lap.

To help your companion feel even more relaxed, we will administer a sedative to help them fall asleep. Their breathing will become slow and steady, and they will not feel any stress or discomfort.

Once you give Dr. Hawrysio permission, she will administer the euthanasia solution to your pet intravenously. Your pet will be fully relaxed and asleep at this time, so they won’t feel a thing. The euthanasia solution works quickly, so it will only take a few moments for your loved one to pass on.

After, we can discuss your pet’s cremation and memorial options, or you can discuss that with us ahead of our visit to your home.
