In-Home Hospice & Palliative Care for Dogs and Cats
Pet hospice and palliative care are essentially intertwined; the overall goal of both is to increase your pet’s physical and emotional comfort as much as possible if their life expectancy is short. It is a privilege for Dr. Hawrysio and her team at Halo Pet Hospice to give you peace of mind about your pet’s well-being as they approach the end of their life, and to keep them pain-free during the precious days, weeks, or months they have left.
Want to meet with Dr. Hawrysio to talk about your pet’s needs? Call (219) 200-4808 to schedule a consult. Please allow Dr. Hawrysio 1-2 business days to return your call if you need to leave a message.
What is Palliative Care?
Palliative care is about controlling any symptoms your pet may be experiencing as a result of their life-threatening disease or other condition. Pain, vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence, and other issues can be managed by providing your pet with prescribed medications and subcutaneous fluids to help them feel better. Palliative care is usually provided earlier in the end-of-life care process than hospice care.
What is Hospice Care?
Hospice care is provided with the knowledge that your pet may have 6 months or less to live. Our goal is to help you figure out in-home solutions to improve their comfort, mobility, and quality of life as much as possible. We can also provide care to your pet that you may not feel comfortable providing yourself, such as fluids or insulin injections. We will also check in weekly with you to see how your pet is doing, and whether we need to adjust their current treatment/medications.
Hospice care is meant to give your pet comfort and dignity in their final days, and support for you and your family to help you through the process.
